Research subject Risk and Decision Analysis
Analysing risks and making decisions is something that we do all the time in everyday life, often without thinking too much about it. But when decisions have big consequences for organisations, societies or nations, it might be good to use research-based methods.
Using a formal model of rational choice improves the quality of both the decision process and the decision outcome. That is the underlying rationale for Decision Analysis. When alternatives are compared in a structured way, the risk of making the “wrong” decision decreases. This makes the process leading up to a decision more effective.
Risk and Decision Analysis has applications in a wide range of domains such as urban planning, public procurement, treatment of hazardous materials, energy storage, sustainability and other societal challenges.
Research projects explore objectivity versus social complexity in risk analysis, as well as policies for decarbonising the energy sector.
