Research subject Teaching and Learning in Humanities

Teaching and Learning in Humanities are based on humanistic school subjects such as history, religious studies and philosophy. The interest focus towards what the subjects are in relation to what it could or should be in school, society, higher education and professional training.

Central questions that are studied in the field are the relationship between theory and practice, teaching learning and subject and social critical perspectives in teaching. It is important to critically examine how selective choices and subject traditions are formed and maintained in school.

Religious education is interested in questions about teaching and learning in the school subject religious knowledge as well as studies of parish-based teaching, and relationships between them - both in Sweden and in other countries.
History education has a particular focus on how we as humans relate to the past, namely how historical knowledge is created, used, conveyed and perceived.
Philosophy education is interested in questions about teaching and learning in philosophy in school and higher education, such as ethical and political-philosophical questions can be used to develop critical thinking.

Our researchers within the Teaching and Learning in Humanities subjects use a range of different theoretical inputs that are related in different ways to methodological approaches such as approaches such as interviews, classroom observations, surveys, text analysis as well as modeling and design of teaching. The research often takes place in collaboration with municipalities and schools, among other things in the form of practical and teaching-developing research projects in close collaboration with teachers.
