Past and current research themes in linguistics include language contact and sociolinguistic studies of linguistic variation and language choice, mostly on Finnish in Finland and in Sweden, spoken as well as written, etymology, Finnish political discourse, historical linguistics, applied linguistics, cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics and multilingualism.
