The field embraces the study of planet Earth as a dynamic system through integrated applications of geological, geochemical and geophysical methods.

Structural geology, petrology, geochronology and ore geology and important parts of this field. These and other geological disciplines seek to further our understanding of Earth’s history, plate tectonics, magmatism, natural disasters, geological resources and climate change.

Courses and programmes

Doctoral studies

The Department of Geological Sciences has three research education programs: Geochemistry, Geology and Marine Geology. This education ends with a degree as Licentiate of Philosophy and/or Doctor of Philosophy in one of the three programs.
