Historians of ideas at Stockholm Universityresearch historical forms of knowledge and expertise, encyclopaedias and the history of the knowledge system since the 18th century, the history of medicine and psychiatry, and the role of emotions in scientific work.

Within the History of knowledge at Stockholm University research is conducted in the history of medicine and psychiatry, including issues of social policy and health for modern society. Historians of ideas at Stockholm University also research historical forms of knowledge and expertise, encyclopaedias and the history of the knowledge system since the 18th century. In addition, we study the role of emotions in scientific work in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Doctoral studies

The postgraduate studies in History of Ideas consists of four years of fulltime studies with employment. As a PhD student you will be contributing to the research from Stockholm University and to the research environment at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics. The doctoral studies include writing an independent thesis.
