Our research group is interested in the synthesis, structure determination and applications of crystalline materials.

Knowing the 3D atomic structures of materials and biomolecules is crucial for understanding their functions. X-ray diffraction is currently the most important technique for determination of 3D atomic structures, but requires large crystals which are often difficult to obtain

The groups research activities span the academic disciplines of materials science and applied surface and colloid science with a focus on sustainable materials.

We focus on developing inorganic electrocatalysts for water splitting, especially for the oxygen evolution reaction as the hydrogen reduction reaction is easier to catalyze.

The group’s research area is inorganic solid state/materials chemistry with a strong focus on metallic and semimetallic materials, including hydrides, borides and carbides.
