The research in Bioorganic chemistry is based on Organic chemistry and borders Biochemistry and Biophysics; the three-dimensional structure as well as molecular interactions of chemically synthesized or isolated biomolecules are investigated and unraveled.

Research topics cover chemical synthesis of complex carbohydrate structures and conjugates thereof, small molecule ligands, potential enzyme inhibitors, and fluorescent D-amino acids. Molecular structure is characterized by solution state NMR spectroscopy using 1D, 2D and 3D experiments and spectroscopic results are interpreted by molecular modeling techniques, molecular dynamics simulations and/or quantum chemical calculations.
