Mothers with cognitive difficulties, such as intellectual disability (ID) and ADHD, are at increased risk for lowered caregiving ability. However, there is a notable lack of research about factors contributing to this increased risk, which hampers the ability to provide supportive interventions.

This research project investigates the role of altered reward processing in three developmental psychiatric disorders: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

In recent decades, European countries have seen substantial changes in family constellations. Using longitudinal data from five European countries, we examine whether the consequences of family constellations are constant for children and adults across European countries.

The current project "Ethnical discrimination in the legal context: The role of interviewees’ native language for accuracy and suggestibility in investigative interviews" examines how a persons language (native vs. non-native) affects their accuracy and susceptibility to suggestions in investigative interviews.

A diagnosis of ADHD often comes with benefits such as medical treatment and educational interventions. An ADHD diagnosis can also lead to negative aspects such as stigma and exclusion in social settings or from certain jobs.

The challenge of conflict resolution and intergroup reconciliation is maintained by many social and psychological obstacles such as the belief that members of adversary groups are mostly bad and essentially all the same.

With a focus on inter individual distances; does the public know how actual exposure to an airborne virus varies with, e.g, variation of face to face distance and length of a conversation?

Humans tend to divide their social world into “us” and “them”. In addition, we often believe that “we” are better than “them”. Such perceptions can lead to prejudices, intolerance or even conflict.

The Applied Developmental Science research group is working to advance what we know about the strengths of children and adolescents, and support families with adolescent children.

The reporting of stress and stress-related health complaints is high in adolescents, and a gender difference to the disadvantage of girls is a typical finding in large-scale studies. The overall purpose of this research project is to increase the understanding of experiences of stress and stress-related health complaints in adolescent girls and boys.

A common type of crime among female perpetrators is arson. This doctoral project will investigate factors at the time of crime, psychosocial background, and risk factors for crime recidivism for women who commit arson, in comparison with men who commit arson, and based on the knowledge formulate the women's clinical needs.
