Psychosocial stress at work has been suggested to play a role in the development of cognitive dysfunction, but evidence on the neural substrate (brain structure and function) of psychosocial work stress is scarce.

While prior research has assessed the effects of residential environments on various health outcomes in adult populations, they have not taken account for the effects related to environments of the individuals’ workplaces.

In March 2020, everyday life changed dramatically for many Swedish workers as a result of the Public Health Agency’s recommendations on telework (work from home using ICT) to reduce the spread of COVID-19; within some weeks telework increased by 400%. Many of those who began teleworking did so without or with only limited experience of telework.

This project, "The Fruits of Labor", asks the question of whether a healthy work life can postpone (i.e. prolong the third age), compress, and/or eliminate the fourth age? Or will adverse working conditions accumulate over the work life and instead expand the fourth age?

The majority of all adults who are diagnosed with anxiety fulfilled the criteria for this diagnosis as teenagers.

Climate change has increased temperatures in Scandinavian countries. Changes in winter temperatures have caused increased rainfall and decreased snowfall. Moreover, increased cloudiness has reduced the amount of solar radiation reducing the daylight exposure in already dark winters.

Shift work, especially with night work, has a number of negative health effects. Several attempts have been made to create ergonomic recommendations on which factors constitute a good shift schedule, but the arguments are rather weak and based on individual studies at specific companies, with a certain schedule type (eg 3-shift) and without clear criteria.

The purpose of the project is to investigate working conditions, living habits and self-rated mental and general health before and after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and if there have been changes in these areas, in a nationwide sample of gainfully employed individuals in Sweden.

Shift work is an important work environment factor that contributes to work-related ill health and mortality. To reduce work-related ill-health and mortality, it is important to design shift schedules that meet our need for recovery, do not interfere more than necessary in social life, and reduce circadian rhythm disturbances.

Y-SLOSH is the Stress Research Institute's study of the development of mental illness in young people, and possible underlying factors, related to the establishment in the labor market. The project is based on surveys sent out to a sample of 25 500 15–29-year-olds in Sweden.
