International Institutions and International Cooperation

The course covers the formal and informal rules that govern how actors cooperate and interact in the international system.

This includes theories and debates within research on patterns, causes, and consequences of the increasingly complex international institutions that exist in the world.

International institutions play a significant role in the consequences of global governance and global political solutions, for example, when it comes to issues of justice, legitimacy, and efficiency.

  • Course structure

    To obtain a passing grade on the course, the student should be able to:

    • Critically explain in an in-depth way the central theories within international institutions and international cooperation.
    • Reflect in an in-depth way on the central debates within research on international institutions and international cooperation.
    • Analyze central societal issues in an in-depth way using various approaches within research on international institutions and international cooperation.

    Teaching format

    The teaching consists of seminars.

    Attendance at seminars is mandatory. In case of absence, supplementation is made in accordance with the course convener's instructions. No more than a third of the seminars can be compensated.

    The instruction is given on campus or remotely, as specified for each course occasion.

    Teaching is held in English.

    Assessment

    The course is examined through participation in mandatory seminar discussions, as well as through written assignments. For more information, see the course description.

  • Schedule

    The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
  • Course literature

    Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
