Bachelor programme in Arabic with specialisation in Middle Eastern and North African studies

The bachelor's programme in Arabic with specialisation in Middle Eastern and North African Studies is a three-year programme, 180 credits (ECTS). The programme leads to a Bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern Lagugage sand Cultures.

The programme requires knowledge in Swedish.

The programme is multidisciplinary and combines Arabic with courses in Middle Eastern and North African societies and culture.

 

  • Programme overview

    During the first three semesters, you will learn the basics of the Arabic language; its basic grammar, syntax, morphology, vocabulary and language proficiency, as well as basic knowledge of the region; its history, literature, religions, culture, geography, politics, economics and general issues that are central to understanding the Middle East and North Africa.

    During the last three semesters, you will work more in-depth with the language and the region. Here, the focus is to contain a deeper knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa, and being able to use Arabic sources in scientific analysis.

    During semester four, it is possible to do an internship or study abroad. The choice of internship and studies abroad takes place in consultation with the Director of Studies. During semester six you will write a bachelor's thesis (15 credits).

    The programme aims to provide high linguistic competence in Arabic and in-depth knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa.

    The programme prepares students for work related to the Middle East and North Africa, for example in business, administration, international organizations, research and development projects, media and journalism.

    The program also prepares for further studies at an advanced level in the main area of Middle Eastern languages and cultures.

    Year 2

    Semester 3
    Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies III, 30 credits (Main area: Middle Eastern Lagugages sand Cultures)

    Semester 4
    Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies IV, 30 credits (Main area: Middle Eastern Lagugages sand Cultures), or studies abroad in the Middle East and North Africa, 30 credits .

    Year 3

    Semester 5
    Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies V, 30 credits (Main area: Middle Eastern Lagugages sand Cultures)

    Semester 6
    Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies bachelor's course, 30 credits (Main area: Middle Eastern Lagugages sand Cultures)
