Portuguese, Sociolinguistics
The course contains an introduction to modern sociolinguistic theory and method with application to Portuguese.
Socio-linguistics research fields and basic concepts are also presented. The course covers the following sub-areas: linguistic variation, bilingualism from the social and individual point of view, language exchange and code exchange, gender and accommodation theory. Furthermore, we discuss how social significance is expressed through language and established in interaction.
