The purchasers should explore better alternatives to hazardous products and ensure that the supplier sends safety data sheets. Try to reduce purchases of rarely used products by borrowing such products from a colleague. Purchases should be made through the SU Shop, which has framework agreements with a number of retailers. When purchasing new products, the safety data sheet should always be included when the product is registered in KLARA.

Import from countries outside the EU

The importer of a chemical product from a non-EU country is responsible for acquiring the necessary written risk and safety information for the imported products if such is not provided by the supplier.

Permits

Chemicals that require a permit may not be purchased until a permit has been obtained. Contact the environmental health engineer at the Technical Support Office for help with the permit application.

Exemptions

Certain chemicals, such as mercury compounds, require an exemption. Others, such as ozone-depleting chemicals, require registration. Contact the environment officer at the Technical Support Office for help in these matters.
