Organisation

The department has about 14 employees, almost all technical and administrative staff who work to coordinate and support biology education at Stockholm University.

The Department of Biology Education is responsible for and coordinates biology education at undergraduate and advanced level. Employees at the department make up the student office that handles, among other things, academic administration, study counselling, premises and equipment. Teaching staff are employed at one of the other departments within the Biology section:

Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute

Department of Zoology

Teaching staff is also available at Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Swedish Museum of Natural History.

At the Department of Biological Undergraduate Education, there are two administrative directors of studies who have overall responsibility for biology education. In addition, there are subject study directors, with special responsibility for the education in their subject, at each research institution.

Management and Board

The department is headed by a head of department, who is appointed for three years at a time. The head of department works part-time at the department and also works as a researcher at one of the biological departments.

The Department Board

The department board is the department's highest decision-making body. The composition of the board ensures that teachers, technical and administrative staff and students are all represented. The teachers are appointed from each research institution and Stockholm Resilience Center. The Department of Biological Undergraduate Education appoints a TA representative. Student representatives are appointed by the corps through the Biological Subject Council.

Study director meetings

The directors of studies meet regularly and prepare, among other things, certain issues before the department board meetings.
