Study abroad

By studying abroad, you can study courses that are not offered at Stockholm University, try out a new academic environment and gain new perspectives in your education. In addition, it is a way to gain international experience and qualifications for your future work, improve your language skills and increase your understanding of other cultures.

There are several opportunities to study abroad during your education with us. You can go as an exchange student, do your degree project abroad or work abroad through a traineeship.

 

Exchange studies

As a student at Stockholm University, you have the opportunity to study one or two semesters at one of our partner universities around the world. Stockholm University is part of several international networks and has exchange agreements with several hundred universities around the world.

On this page you will find information about exchange studies at the universities with which our department has an agreement. There are also central agreements, with other universities, that students from all departments at Stockholm University can apply for.

You can also study abroad on your own, then you are not bound to a university with which there is an agreement. It gives you great freedom of choice, but means that you must obtain all the information yourself, handle course choices and applications, keep in touch with universities and authorities and pay any tuition fees.

Incoming exchange students

We have exchange agreements with universities around the world that offer interesting courses in biology, including the University of Illinois Urban Champagne in the USA and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. We also have several agreements within Erasmus+, for example in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany.

To apply for exchange studies at one of the universities with which the department has an agreement, you must first contact our exchange coordinator.

Autumn term: March 31 (January 31 for Illinois & NTU)
Spring term: September 15 (May 31 for Illinois & NTU)

 

Degree project abroad

Stockholm University is an international academic environment. Our researchers have many international collaborations and have broad international networks, some conduct their own research abroad. The opportunities to complete parts or all of your degree project at master's level abroad are therefore good. You also have the freedom to go outside of the university's collaborations.

Traineeship abroad

The biologist's labor market is global. The knowledge and skills you gain in your education here at Stockholm University are generally applicable beyond national borders. This means that you do not have to limit yourself to workplaces in Sweden when you are looking for a traineeship.

As a student at Stockholm University, you have the opportunity through Erasmus+ Traineeship to work or collect data at a company or organization in one of the countries that are part of Erasmus+.
