Credit transfer

To include previously completed courses or courses taken abroad in your degree from Stockholm University you need to apply for a credit transfer.

A credit transfer can have consequences for your continued studies and for the content of the degree. It can also affect the right to study grants. If you have any questions, please contact the study counsellor before applying.

Note! You must be an active student at Stockholm University to make a credit transfer application.

If you are not a student at the Department of Biology Education read here

Do I need to apply for credit transfer?

There are two main reasons to apply for a credit transfer:

  • If you have completed a course or a module that is the equivalent (in content, level and number of credits) to a compulsory or elective course or a module at the Department of Biology Education.
  • If you have completed courses abroad that you want to include in your degree.

If you have completed a course at a Swedish university that you want to count toward the optional credits in your degree you do NOT have to apply for credit transfer. It is sufficient to list them in your degree application.

How to apply for credit transfer

You apply for credit transfer in Ladok.

  • Log in with your university account, click on Apply for and Crediting.
  • Provide the name and course code of the course you have already studied (Reason for crediting)
  • State what you want your course to correspond to at Stockholm University (Credited as). This can be a specific course or module, an elective or optional course.
  • Submit the required documentation (see below).

Note! If you want to have several courses credited, we ask that you make a separate application for each course.

Supporting documentation

For your application to be processed you must upload the following documents as PDF-files.

  • Official Transcript of Records in the original language and an authorized English translation. The transcript must show your grades and information on grading scales.
  • Detailed course syllabus from the term the course was taken. Information on the level and extent of the studies as well as forms of examination should be included and a reading list if available.
  • If you wish to transfer credits from exchange studies, please enclose your Learning Agreement from Stockholm University but you do not need to include course syllabi.
  • If you are applying to transfer credits taken within the Department of Biology Education, you do not need to include course syllabi in your application.

What happens next?

The processing time is up to two months from the time a complete application is submitted. Once a decision has been made, you will be informed in writing. A rejection decision can be appealed. An approved decision will be documented in Ladok and cannot be changed.

A credit transfer is an administrative measure and not an examining measure. This means that no grade is given for the credited course. Modules that have been credited for part of a course are excluded from the weighting for final grades on the full course.
